All of us can name at least one teacher who made an impact on our lives. I personally can count about 4 teachers like that. Two of them were elementary school teachers, one was a high school teacher and then there was Mike Quinn.
He was my Media Law professor at the University of Texas. I will always remember his compassion when I did poorly on a test due to a family emergency. He sat quietly listening as I tried not to cry while telling him about the tragic situation that had disrupted my life and made it impossible to prepare for his test. Well, when you are ready, you can just take the test again, he said with the kindest eyes I had ever seen. Exactly one week later, I retook the test and passed it easily.
That kindness extended by this quiet man was all that was needed to get me back in track in his class. And apparently I wasnt the only one who was treated this way. Mike Quinn died in 2006 but his legacy will never be forgotten by those lucky students who had the pleasure to be guided along their educational paths by him.
