It had to happen.. a good thing finally gets here and someone has to sound the alarm and launch the witch hunt. Proposition One is on the ballot on November 3. It will give Texas Homeowner's a Homestead Exemption Increase from $15k to $25k, which is money in your pocket. Unfortunately, as sometimes happens in our government, the wording of the ballot is a bit confusing and very very wordy. Therefore, someone has taken it upon themselves to throw up the red flag and say it is a bad thing and those beaurocrats (their words, not mine) are trying to pull one over on the taxpayers again. They are not!! The simple fact is, it is an increase with no strings attached. It just needs your vote. Along with this piece of legislation is the constitutional ban on real estate transfer tax. If you don't want to see a percentage of your sales price tacked on to your closing costs when you buy or sell your home, you should vote yes. Someone who does not care about throwing an extra 5 or 6 k on the closing table will vote no to proposition One. So vote yes. If you don't vote, you are basically giving the people voting no a boost. Let's save ourselves some cold hard cash, for now and for the future. Vote Yes to Proposition One!
