Biggest Myth In Home Buying

March 13th, 2012

"You can't buy a home without credit history.  You'll have to build your credit to get approved."

This is one of the biggest lies society has bought into.  It's just not true.

Having no credit simply means, you'll have to find a mortgage banker with an underwriter who knows what they're doing.  A good underwriter will know how to build a credit history using things such as the payment history on your phone bill, insurance, rent, and utility bills.

So, why do banks and other sales people encourage credit?  It's simply a ploy to get people out there applying for credit and spending money on interest and other fees when it's not necessary.  These same people will tell you, "You need a credit card to rent a car or a hotel room."  Also not true.  A debit Visa or Mastercard from your bank will work just fine for these things.

So what will you need to buy a home?  A good steady source of income that supports the amount you would like to qualify for on a home and proof that you can pay the bills that you do have, on time.

Remember, No Credit is Always Better Than Bad Credit!
