The new extension of Kuykendahl Road is now open.
The extension officially opened March 22 with a ribbon cutting ceremony and serves as an entrance to the village of Creekside Park.
“The Kuykendahl Road extension uniquely defines and serves the Village of Creekside Park and the future Creekside Park Village Center,” said Alex Sutton, president of The Woodlands Development Company. “The roadway provides direct access to the upcoming Village Center, Timber Creek Elementary School, which will open in the fall of 2012, and Fire Station 7.”
The development company did the project in conjunction with Harris County Precinct 4 and The Woodlands Road Utility District, said Daniel E. Kolkhorst, vice president, engineering and construction with the development company.
The bifurcation of the road, meaning north and south bound lanes are separated by approximately 450 feet, begins at Kuykendahl Road and Creekside Green Drive on the south side and extends to just north of Creekside Forest Drive and The Woodlands Fire Department Station 7.
The total cost of the road project was $5.7 million.
The extension measures 1.7 miles and aims to help with growth and development congestion. Pate Engineers served as the engineer on the project while Angel Brothers was the contractor.
“Approximately 15,000 vehicles per day use Kuykendahl Road, and the area is growing at a rate of 3 percent per year,” Kolkhorst said. “The extension and enhancement of Kuykendahl Road was highly anticipated.”
