In the past   historic buildings could  be demolish  even if a city commission denied   this request   by waiting  a period of 90 days after the rejection.  However this week, the Houston City Council voted out this 90-day waiting period for property owners to demolish historic buildings in historic districts.
Some of the new rules, include having at least 10 percent of property owners in a historic district to petition the city  to lose its historic designation and turn this petition in to the city within 30 days. 
Neighborhoods that wish to be recognized as historic districts must receive the support of two thirds of property owners.

En el pasado si se era propietario de  una construcción histórica en el distrito histórico de Houston,  aunque le negarán la petición de demoler una construcción se podían demoler  después de un periodo  de 90 días, pero  el City Council de la ciudad de Houston votó que se quitara  esta opción y  en efecto si el Council dice no a la demolisión así deberá ser.

Entre las nuevas reglas están que para que un distrito pierda su designación como Distrito Historico debe tener el apoyo del 10% de los propietarios y se deben de de entregar los papeles a la ciudad dentro de 30 dias.
También  para que un distrito sea reconocido como histórico debe tener el apoyo de dos tercios de sus propietarios.
