Bay Area Meals On Wheels Events and Information

January 23rd, 2012

Bay Area Meals on Wheels (BAMOW) is an all volunteer corporation chartered in 1982 with the primary purpose of providing nutritious hot meals and sack lunches to home bound persons regardless of age. Meals are delivered between 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday-Friday year round.

Our serving area corresponds roughly to the Clear Creek Independent School District. Over the past 29 years, we have served over 357,000 meals. On average, we deliver 15,000 hot meals and 2,700 sack lunches per year to 62 clients per day.

Our website is www.bayareamealsonwheels.info. A great way to serve the community is by becoming drivers to deliver meals. Those in need or their family members can contact us about becoming a client.

Driver Education - Our drivers are often asked about weekly billing. When a client asks, tell them meals cost us a minimum of $3.70 when they are ordered, so they need to make sure to cancel by 9:00 a.m. if they are not going to be home. MOW relies on client contributions and community donations, and whatever contribution they can make is greatly appreciated. Never say to them they do not have to pay.

Keep Alert - We very much appreciate reports of possible problems including, but not limited to, loose dogs, caregivers/family present in the home, or changes in the health of clients. If you feel a client needs assistance, please contact Ruth Tully at 281-326-3336. She works with various agencies to get the help needed.

Help Fund Us!  A big thank you to all our members who used their Kroger or Randall's shopping cards to partner with Bay Area Meals on Wheels. In May we received our yearly check from Kroger - $669.97, more than a $100 increased over last year. That brings our total earned over the years to $6,635. We really appreciate your efforts to help us help our clients!

If you have not used the bar code since June 2009 you will need to have them swipe it once again to link it to your Plus or Remarkable card.  Your daily coordinator will have the bar code in case you need one.

Our funds come through client contributions and donations from individuals, local churches and businesses such as Clear Lake United Methodist, St. Bernadette's, House of Prayer, Friendswood; Clear Lake City's House of Prayer, Lutheran Women of the Church, EXXON MOBIL Foundation, Boeing, ESA Theta Psi Chapter, Bay Area Republican Women, Space Center Rotary, and others.

BAMOW Anniversary Party!
We will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of BAMOW on March 6, 2012. Mark your calendars, more information will be provided at a later date. If you know of a guest speaker that would be right for this event please contact Rebecca Johnson at 281-486-5827.
