Sometimes it is the real estat agents who actually can make or break a transaction – not the clients at all! Hard to believe, but it is true. The buyers and sellers often never meet each other until the closing table – if at all! Words that are exchanged, emails written, voicemails, etc., all are filtered through the agents. So what can make a transaction have a positive vibe or end on a sour note? Perhaps it could actually be how well the two real estate agents work together.
I’m actually writing this blog because it is something I am experiencing right now, even in this season of Thanksgiving, and the holidays upon us! You would think – or at least I would think – that it is the season for folks to be a little extra pleasant to each other. But in one of my current transactions, the rudeness from my co-op agent is pervasive.
I work hard personally to be an agent that has a reputation for being good to work with! That is what I really desire. Some transactions are harder than others, and negotiations can become very strained, creating tensions between all parties. Setting that aside, this transaction has not been like that at all. Still the agent has been completely insulting in her feedback, emails, and negotiations. It is so uncalled for. I had not said a word concerning the other agent to my clients, but simply shared with them her emails relaying her clients’ response to a specific piece we were negotiating. My clients sent a note to me saying how rude the other agent is being.
The unfortunate thing is that her behavior and attitude are actually hurting HER clients!! Her nastiness is aimed at me and my clients, but that is not who is suffering. The tone with which things are presented has a great deal to do with how the other party receives them, AND what they are willing to do about it.
So agents, please just be nice! Be kind, courteous and professional. Don’t be THAT agent.
