Major renovation of Woodlands Conference Center announced

February 25th, 2013

The Howard Hughes Corporation and The Woodlands Development Company have announced plans for a major redevelopment of the renowned Woodlands Resort and Conference Center. The $95 million renovation is in response to an increase in demand for high-end hospitality, according to The Howard Hughes Corporation.

“The renovation and expansion of this already thriving resort will solidify its position as the premier destination resort across the state,” said Paul Layne, executive vice president of The Howard Hughes Corporation. “This redevelopment continues our mission to create timeless places and memorable experiences.”

The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center currently features 440 guest rooms, 60,000 square feet of meeting space, spa and fitness facilities, the Forest Oasis Waterscape, 21 outdoor and indoor tennis courts, two golf courses, and a restaurant.

The redevelopment of the facility, which is expected to be complete in June 2014, includes the renovation of 222 existing guest rooms and suites in Fairway Pines I and II, and the replacement of 206 lodge rooms in Fairway Pines III. A new wing will be constructed with 184 guest rooms and suites and an expanded arrival area with porte-cochere and lobby featuring native Texas stone and three-story windows.

In addition, a new 1,000-foot Lazy River will be added at the Forest Oasis, and all 60,000 square feet of meeting space will be renovated. A new 120-seat steak house with private wine vault and outdoor patio will be constructed at the 18th hole of the center's golf course.

According to the Howard Hughes Corporation, the resort has been named among the best in the country by Meetings & Conventions, ConventionSouth, Smart Meetings, Meetings Focus, MeetingsNews and Corporate Meetings & Incentive Magazine. The resort has also been recognized by Travel & Leisure, Golf Digest and several other local and regional publications.
