City of Houston Improvements in Willow Meadows

August 11th, 2016

City of Houston Public Works & Engineering (PWE) had a meeting last night to inform all the Home Owners in Willow Meadows Subdivision to explain what type of improvements and or repairs that will be done in the area to help aliviate the flooding that occured this year.

The will adding larger drainage block under the sidewalks. Currently the neighborhood does not have sidewalks so the City will add the sidewalks and under the sidewalk they will install the larger drains to contain the water and keep it off the street.  The sidewalk will only be on one side of the street.  They will resurface the street to make it new.  they will also provide repairs on the streets that have had the drainage work completed and the damage that was caused by the contractor.  Home owner on the street will need to fill out a Comment Card identifying the damages and e-mail it to the Public Works & Engineering department to address.

The work is estimated to last 9 months to remove the old system and replace with the new and add the sidewalks.  They will also be removing some trees that will need to be removed and replaced with a new treee.  They requested that the if the home owners see a tree marked with tape and or other type of marker to not remove it.  The trees that are marked will be not touched and the trees that are not marked will be removed and replaced with a new tree.

Currently some street have street light and some streets do not have any and it is a safety issue.  The City of Houston is trying to look and see if they can get a budget to put tempary lights until Centerpoint is able to come out and install permant poles and lights.  The PWE requests that the residents please keep your exterior lights on at night time.   If you have a neighbor that  you know is not living in their home, please reach out to them and ask that they keep their exterior lights on all the time to help at night.

The work will be completed in phases.  The project is in Phase 6 through 10.  Phase 6 will address Cliffwood, Phase 7 is Meyerwood, Phase 8 is Breakwood, Phase 9 is Woodvalley and Phase 10 is Greenwillow.   If you get a yellow door hanger on your door dont be alarmed.  The way you know they will be working on your street is by that yellow door hanger.  It will identify the type of work will be done on the street and contact informaiton.  Please do not throw the door hanger away because it will have the important infomation of what contractor will be providing the work and who to contact if you have issues during the re-construction.

To see all the information provided by City of Houston Public Works and Engineering please look at the photos.  One of the photos contains the Comment Card which will need to be filled out with the damages created by the previous contractor and submitted to PWE to get addressed.   When you complete the comment card please make sure to have the project number (#M-001013-0001-4/Willow Waterhole Drainage & Paving Project)  You need to only add the number on the card and e-mail the card to pwecip@houstontx.gov.
