Story on Tricon Homes: Fourteen years ago the Houston Heights was a very different neighborhood from the highly sought after one it is today. Recognizing the potential for greatness through revitalization and development, brothers, Jose and Tristan Berlanga started Tricon Homes. Fully vested in this endeavor, they chose to not only build, but also operate out of the Heights, which allowed them to gain a greater sense for the community and an appreciation of what it had to offer. First, working from an old American Foursquare style home along Heights Boulevard, and then later from a 10,000 sq. ft. office in Sunset Heights, which they designed and built and which blends harmoniously with the surroundings while keeping true to the Tricon signature look.


When selecting lots to acquire they examined the entire block looking for areas where building a Tricon Home would have the greatest impact. This strategic process was pivotal in increasing neighboring property values while adding to the curb appeal of the streets on which they were built. Starting with only a handful of homes a year; each carefully designed and styled to capture the essence and pay tribute to the historical homes of the area; they eventually grew to have a significant presence in the Heights. Their contribution to the renaissance and renewal of the community is the foundation of their success and while they have since expanded into other markets throughout the inner-loop of Houston, the legacy of their work is evident in the collection of Victorian style homes found throughout the tree-lined streets of the Greater Heights.

Today,Tricon Homes is a well respected builder and has garnished a reputation for their versatile designs which integrate the prevalent architectural styles of the area into the exterior design, while offering open living spaces and practical floor plans that are conducive to a modern lifestyle. At the helm of architecture and design direction is Tristan Berlanga. Tristan has a degree in architecture and environmental design from the University of Houston and is the source of their passionate commitment to quality in design, material selection, and construction. The financial success of the company has been driven by Jose Berlanga, the economist and chief business planner. His expertise in land acquisition plays a critical role in Tricon Home’s ability to control costs and maximize the potential of each development. Jose has a degree in business administration and economics from the University of St. Thomas. The talents of each brother compliments the other and by collaborating on each project they are able to showcase their individual strengths in a unified fashion .Their synergistic partnership has driven business growth every year since the company was founded in 1998.

While they continue to build in the Heights, they have branched out in more recent years to include neighborhoods such as Montrose, Mid-town, the Museum District, Sawyer Heights, Downtown, Cottage Grove, Shady Acres, Rice Military, Memorial and Crestwood. Through building in these varied and distinct areas Tricon has customized their offerings to reflect the size, style, and budget for which is appropriate. Their developments also reflect that same spirit of diversification and span from one home semi-custom projects to those of forty-plus in something of a master-planned community. Overall, their growth has resulted in a range of home sale prices from $200,000 to over $1,000,000; thus affording them a presence in a multitude of market areas and the ability to cater to homebuyers all along the price spectrum.

Tricon Homes is a vertically integrated company, meaning that the entire home building process, from land acquisition and development, planning, design, purchasing, and construction management, to marketing, sales, and warranty; takes place in-house.
