The Spring Branch Independent School bond issue worth $898.4 million was overwhelming approved with just the final results left to be tallied.

With 89 percent of precincts reporting, the ballot measure was passing 79.5 percent to 20.5 percent.

Results are as of 10:45 p.m.

Based on recommendations from the Bond Advisory Committee, featuring two months of discussion and workshops, the bond issue was touted as an investment in area schools.

The committee was charged with recommending key areas of need in the district.

Without raising taxes in the district, about 80 percent of the bond issue focuses on facility improvements. The next largest allocation, about 12 percent, is geared toward technology upgrades.

Some of the schools with the highest score for deficiencies in the facilities were built throughout the 1950s and '60s. Bendwood, Bunker Hill, Hunters Creek, Memorial Drive and Woodview Elementaries; Landrum, Spring Branch, Spring Oaks and Spring Woods Middle Schools; Memorial and Spring Woods High Schools, as well as Westchester Academy were those that ranked high in deficiencies.
