MOVING TO HOUSTON : 9 REASONS YOU WILL LOVE IT HERE

FOOD

If you’re a foodie, then Houston is the place to move to. With over 10,000 restaurants to choose from, Houston is home to some of the best cuisine. In fact, Houston is ranked number 5 as one of the best food cities by the Washington Post. With all of Houston’s diversity, you can choose from American to Mediterranean to Authentic Asian food, or whatever you prefer, Houston has it.

The best BBQ in my opinion, will be Triple J’s. Everything on the menu is good. Looking for food that touches your soul? Then you have to try Esther’s Soul Food. Try the peach cobbler, it’s the best you’ll ever taste. In the mood for snow crab? LA crawfish has some of the best Cajun seasoned snow crab legs.

SPORTS

Another great attraction and reason to move to Houston the City’s Sports scene.  Watch Harden and CP3 lead the Houston Rockets to victory. If you are a huge sports fan you can also get season tickets to the Texans game. Join the winning city, home of the World Series Champions. If you love baseball, Houston is the city to move to. This year, the Astros took home ultimate prize of winning the 2017 world series, the first in Astros history.

DIVERSITY

Another great reason to move to Houston is its diversity. In fact, a Rice University study shows that Houston is the most diverse city in America when it comes to race and ethnicity. A 2012 study shows that Houston does not have a leading race, but that every race is represented equally. Houston is the city of the future. With the city being so diverse, a lot of people move to Houston on a daily basis. According to Houston.org, in 2016 over 55,000 people moved to Houston in Harris County. In early 2017, Houston’s population size was well over 6 million.

Those who live in Houston, typically don’t move. The love for Houston is great. The support it received after the 2017 Hurricane Harvey disaster was tremendous. The city was able to raise millions of dollars for those who were affected.

Speaking of Hurricane Harvey, the government introduced a new loan specifically for the victims of Hurricane Harvey. The new loan program allows those that need to replace their home due to the disaster to qualify for zero down payment.

Texas has some of the best and most affordable Real Estate in the country. While most of the country took a big hit with the 2008 recession, Texas real estate market remained strong. According to the National Association of Realtors, the median qualifying income for purchasing a home remains at about 50% of what the median income was in 2017. That means, the income received is twice the amount required to qualify.

Job opportunities are on the rise as well. A large portion of jobs in Houston are related to the oil and gas field. According to the bureau of labor statistics, Houston has experienced a 1.6% job growth rate in comparison to 2016 growth.

COLLEGES

Houston has over 14 colleges or universities to choose from. Some of the prestigious schools include: Baylor College of Medicine which is one of the top 25 in the nation, University of Houston, Rice University, Texas Southern, Houston Baptist University, and Sam Houston State University.

Need to get away from the fast paced city? Galveston Island or Surfside Beach is only an hour away.

MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT

Houston has a vast music scene. After all, it is home to the cities mega-star Beyonce. Houston always has an iconic celebrity touring the city, from Toni Braxton to Robert Earl Keen. The city also has a major attraction for stand-up comedy. If you like to laugh, Houston Impov has you covered. Gary Owens recently performed there.
