Buying a recently remodeled home begs many questions not always easily answered.
These typically older homes built several decades ago are a culmination of building materials, techniques and architecture prevelant for that era. They have had to withstand the elements and subject to the maintenance habits of the owners.
In order to make the home appealling for today's buyers they need substantial facelifts. However, mechanical updates may not be as equally addressed. This poses potential exposure to unexpected repair costs.
Typically those buying homes and fixing them up, aka "flippers," may or may not be experienced and well funded. They are in this to make a profit. Nothing wrong with that. A fair amount of risk and investment and know how is required.
The question is who did the work? What is their experience? What was the quality of workmanship and materials? Will they stand behind their work? What was the scope of repairs?
Buyers buy what they see. My advice: An experienced eye can help. Pick a good inspector and ask a lot of questions. Pick a good Realtor and have them research and help with some of these crucial questions.
Do your homework so your new home lives up to your expectations. You deserve it.
Have a great day!
