Recreation in Houston is in abundance.  I love to run (currently training for the Houston half marathon January 30th)  This morning I decided to change my route and for the very first time in NINE years I choose to run around the campus of Rice University.  Now why oh why have I never done that before?  It was gorgeous if not a little chilly.  Well for Houston 48' is chilly!

Rice University or full title William Marsh Rice University was established in 1891 but opened in 1912  located near the Houston Museum District and adjacent to the Texas Medical Center.  Beautiful gigantic Oak trees line this urban campus which is situated on 300 acres. 

Three things I will take away from my first run this morning are thus:-

1. Run anti clockwise in the early morning; the sun bathes the path so you can warm up at the start of the run!

2. Be careful in some (but not many as the area is very well maintained) of the areas along the path.  Due to the beautiful trees some of the routes are peeking their heads and could be become a hazard if you don't watch your step.  I had only just started out on my run when a chap heading towards me came flying in my direction, body first!  He was fine but probably mightily embarrassed (I certainly would have been).

3. I will without a doubt run there again.  If you are out there and see me running (I will have to post a picture of me in my running gear as it does not look anything like my 'professional attire') run up beside me and say hello.
