How to Stage Your Home for a Sale Around the Holidays

November 13th, 2020

The end of the year can be a great time to have your home on the market. Some buyers would love to make a purchase before the year ends so they can take advantage of the homestead tax exemption in the coming year.

Of course towards the end of the year we have a lot of holidays where people like to decorate and entertain. While that holiday entertaining may be a little different this year due to COVID-19 cautions, that doesn’t mean you can’t make the place festive. If you normally have a huge gathering indoors, show, through staging, that you’re able to do something like that outdoors. Outdoor space is a huge selling point this year. This year we plan to have Thanksgiving dinner out by the pool and have a long dining table where we can spread out, as well as different seated conversation areas throughout the yard.

The usual rules apply: keep the yard and exterior of the house well maintained and manicured. Curb appeal draws buyers in. Add a festive door hanging, seasonal plants and some lighting if you want. The sun goes down earlier this time of year and keeping a few lights on inside gives the house a warm glow from the street. And who doesn’t love a little festive flair of twinkle lights or lanterns?

Once drawn inside the home you want buyers to feel an atmosphere that’s festive, warm and inviting. That being said, you don’t want so many decorations that they can’t really see the beauty of the home, or navigate through the house, or wonder if you really intend to move out soon! Be sure, especially, to keep pathways clear. If none of this makes sense to you and you want to sell your home during the holidays, call me. I can help you set the stage in a fun, stress-free way.
