Don't let your spirits get dampened once the excitement of closing on a new home wears off, and you realize that now you have to move. The start of the prime moving season is May & June, where as much as 45% of all moves in the U.S. happen. Moving can cost a lot of money and be really stressful, so here are a few tips to make your move as efficient as possible.
- Got boxes? Since most grocery stores will give you boxes for free, don't waste any money buying boxes. Just be sure to use plenty of packing material to keep your stuff secure.
- Do more than just wear your clothes. Use your clothes to wrap breakables. Plus using newspaper can make the ink bleed onto anything you wrap it with.
- Take inventory and purge. This is an opportunity to sell or donate things you aren't using anymore. The added bonus is that the less items you take with you, the less stressful your move will be.
- Phone a friend. Hey, no one enjoys moving, and most people have been called on to help a friend move a time or two. Cash back in on that favor, but always be sure to entice them with free food and drinks for their efforts.
