Make a Room Seem Larger With These Colors

Perception can have a lot to do with the size of a room, and wall color has a large affect on that perception. While certain colors can make a room feel smaller, others can make walls lengthen and the room to seem larger. Here are a few paint colors that generate an appearance of more space:
- White: White can make a room seem brighter and appear more open because it reflects light. White will also augment any natural lighting coming in to a room.
- Yellow: As long as it's not too loud of a shade of yellow this can be a softer alternative to white. A creamy or soft yellow will reflect light as well. Make trim and accents white to give a further sense of space.
- Gray: With the advantage of less glare than a shade of white, a relaxing light gray can widen a room. Just stay away from the darker shades of gray.
- Consistent color schemes: Open up a space further by adopting a monochromatic scheme. Use similar shades of your main color on accents, furniture and rugs. This forms a minimalist look that appears clean and can makes the room seem larger.
