Lighting can set the mood for any occasion. Soft lighting can make you feel mellow, while bright lighting can energize you. When a room is not properly lit, it can put you in a dismal mood. Fortunately, you can transform a dark room into a brighter one without taking require drastic measures; just change your lighting. Dark furniture, upholstery, wall color, and carpeting can contribute to making a room appear gloomy.

But you don't have to completely renovate your home to make it brighter. Some simple actions can transform your room. Before you do anything, ask yourself the following questions. What is the function of this room and what kind of lighting is best suited for it? Your answers to these questions will help you figure out the best lighting options for you.

Lamps have the benefit of being convenient and portable. If the darkness in your room makes it difficult to read, a nice reading lamp may be just what you need. If you're looking to brighten up the whole room, then you may need a bigger lamp or a halogen lamp. Lamps come in so many styles and sizes that you can certainly find a style that matches your decor.

Overhead light fixtures are usually attached to the ceiling and provide lighting to the entire room. You can control them with a wall switch. Some even come with dimmers so that you can set the lighting that is best suited for a particular occasion. If you want to keep your current light fixture, consider changing the bulbs or increasing the wattage of the bulbs (as long as you do not exceed the manufacturer's instructions).

Lift the shades
You can brighten any room by just lifting the shades and opening the curtains. There is no better source of light than sunlight. On top of that, it's free! You'll be amazed at how much brighter your home will be when you allow more natural light to come in. If you're worried about losing privacy, you can purchase translucent curtains and blinds. This way, you get to have more natural light without giving up your privacy. Skylights are one of the best ways to receive natural light in your home, especially in small rooms or windowless rooms. Skylights are a great addition to any home, as they are energy efficient and a great way to add value to your home.

A well-lit home is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also comfortable for you and your family. There are many options to consider as you search for the type of lighting that is perfect for your needs and your budget. Take the time to shop and compare before you make your decision. Good lighting has been known to not only brighten up a room, but also one's spirit.
