This is not so much about what improvements you should do to make your home more valuable, but it might be considered what items you already have that you should fix so it doesn't bring the value down.  First impressions are everything when it comes to a home.  Buyers will often label a home after seeing it so they will remember.  You don't want to be the house with that "weird smell" or the "rundown home" or the "home with the gaudy paint".  If you are painting your home's exterior ask yourself "does this color stand out in the neighborhood" and realize that standing out isn't a good thing in this case!  If you're not selling right now, fix it up for yourself and enjoy it!  Always remember a well maintained home shows very well.
