Remodeling Your Houston Home Before Selling It? Don’t Let Plumbing Problems Delay Your Job

June 17th, 2019

One of the best things that you can do before selling your Houston home is to update the kitchen, bedrooms or bathrooms in your home before selling it because certain improvements have been proven to increase the appeal of a home and bring in an excellent ROI.

Sadly, one of the biggest problems that can delay the sale of a home is plumbing, especially with older homes, where it’s not uncommon to find that the pipes need to be replaced.

To avoid getting caught up in a remodel that doesn’t end due to plumbing issues, this article will provide you with plumbing facts that you need to know.

Don’t Forget to Shut the Water Off Before Starting Your Remodel!

Although it’s common sense, you should always make sure to shut off the water to your home before getting started with your renovation project.

Thankfully, there are a water shut off valves on sinks, toilets and some tub/showers that make it easy to shut the water off before starting a project.

Your Bathroom Pipes May Need to Be Replaced

If your home was built before 1990, it’s likely that it may have cast iron or galvanized pipes that have to be replaced since they are not compatible with many of today’s modern toilets or water heaters and should be replaced with PVC or PEX piping.

The good news is that PVC and PEX piping is easier to replace than old school piping and very affordable compared to traditional galvanized piping.

A Plumbing Project Is A Great Time to Replace the Water Heater

Last of all, but most important, when doing a big home renovation, you should also consider replacing your water heater because most water heaters are only meant to function for 10 years so if you’ve had your water heater for longer than that you should consider replacing it.
