There is no doubt that Houston is one of the best cities in the world for a dinner date on any given night. Our options range from world-class Modern American fare like Theodore Rex and groundbreaking unique concepts like Indigo to outposts of glitzy chains—Mastro’s, Steak 48, and Uchi, just to name a few. I defy any Houstonian to stay on top of every restaurant opening, but even the most loyal foodies among us let restaurants begin to fall under the radar as we all try to stay caught up with the latest Chef Chris Shepherd (UB Preserv, Georgia James) or Ford Fry (State of Grace, Superica, La Lucha) opening. You can bet that on the biggest dinner date night of the year, each of these restaurants will be full. I don’t want to assume you don’t have a reservation already, but, well, do you? Just saying.
So, as our usually ample fine dining fills up for one night of the year, I thought I would highlight some restaurants that may be an easier reservation or walk-in but still have lovely dinner and wine service. Often times, once a restaurant has been open for a few years it tends to fall out of foodie favor not because it stops offering stellar cuisine, but simply because of our abundance of options (a good problem to have). Of course, part of V-Day dinner is a more intimate experience, so I have focused on restaurants with a chiller ambiance too!
Best of luck (I would still call ahead for a reservation!) and Happy Valentine’s Day!
