Glenbrook Valley voted "Neighborhood of the Year" by popular local blog

January 1st, 2012

The readers of a popular local real estate blog just voted Glenbrook Valley "Neighborhood of the Year."  Actually, Glenbrook Valley was a winner in two categories, the second being "Greatest Moments in Houston Real Estate" for being one of the three newly created Historic Districts this past year.

The blog is called Swamplot, and for those not familiar with it, here is a description from the Houston Press when it was named "best local blog" in their annual best of Houston list:

"Want to know what that new construction is all about on your street, or why there is a wrecking crew aiming for that quirky little building on your favorite corner? With its fingers on the pulse of the Houston real estate game, Swamplot more than likely has the skinny. This mostly daily blog keeps you abreast of the happenings both inside the Loop and in outlying areas. In the past year, the blog was the first to report on plans about a supposed move for venerable indie club Walter's on Washington, and it has also been keeping keen tabs on the proposed Walmart development in the Heights. Got a nagging question about that "For Sale" sign you just noticed? Ask Swamplot."

This "nod" from Swamplot is just another example of the growing appeal & appreciation of Glenbrook Valley.   This latest award also comes on the heels of a recent article by Nancy Sarnoff in the Houston Chronicle  this past September titled "Historic Hobby Neighborhoods See a Revival".

As word continues to spread about this hidden gem neighborhood, more & more buyers are checking out Glenbrook Valley when seeking a close in neighborhood that does not have the usual "cookie-cutter" houses.  Sales for the neighborhood in 2011 have increased over 2010 and homes in good condition are moving quickly.

These recent accolades are just the latest additions to a long list of positive reviews for the neighborhood.  Over the past few years Glenbrook Valley has been named best hidden neighborhood and one of the top 5 most under-rated neighborhoods by the Houston Press.  It has been featured on the Great Day Houston TV show with host Debra Duncan.  The National Trust for Historic Preservation's Jetmodern Blog also featured Glenbrook Valley.  We were the site of the prestigious international preservation group DOCOMOMO's first Houston based architecture tour, hosted by DOCOMOMO "friend" organization & local preservation group Houston Mod.  Glenbrook Valley has been featured numerous times in the upscale online society magazine culturemap.com, as well as in local publication Change magazine. In addition to this latest article in the Chronicle that appeared on the front page of the Business section, Glenbrook has appeared numerous times before including a front page article titled "Housing Buzz Fuels Move to the East End" and one on the front page of the this week section titled "Glenbrook Valley smacks of Leave it to Beaver."  Glenbrook Valley was also featured in an article on mid-century modern homes that appeared in The Wall Street Journal

Heading into 2012, Glenbrook Valley has a lot of great articles behind it.  If you haven't had a chance to check it out for yourself, drive out and check it out.
