Houston Spring Gardening Tips

April 4th, 2023

Spring is the season of renewal and rejuvenation, the time of year when we all start thinking of sprucing up your garden? As a realtor, I know that a beautiful garden can add value to your property and make it more attractive to potential buyers. In this blog post, I will share some tips for spring gardening in Texas that will help you create a beautiful space to enjoy while also adding curb appeal and value to your property. Choose the right plants. The first step to creating a beautiful garden is to choose the right plants. Texas has a diverse climate, so it's important to select plants that can thrive in your specific region. Some popular plants that do well in Texas in the spring include Bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrushes, Coreopsis, Black-Eyed Susans, and Lantanas. These plants not only add color to your garden but also attract pollinators such as butterflies and bees. Plant in the right location. In addition to selecting the right plants, it's important to plant them in the right location. Most plants need at least six hours of sunlight per day, so be sure to choose a spot in your garden that receives ample sunlight. You should also consider the soil type and drainage in your garden when choosing where to plant your flowers. Water your garden regularly. Texas is known for its hot and dry weather, so it's important to water your garden regularly. The best time to water your garden is in the morning or late afternoon when the sun is not too hot. Be sure to water the base of the plants rather than the leaves to avoid burning them. It’s also beneficial to use mulch around your plants to help retain moisture in the soil. Add some hardscaping. In addition to plants, you can also add some hardscaping to your garden to create a beautiful and functional space. Hardscaping includes features such as pathways, patios, and retaining walls. These features not only add visual interest to your garden but also provide a functional space for outdoor entertaining and require less water and maintenance.   Maintain your garden Finally, it's important to maintain your garden throughout the spring and summer. This includes pruning your plants regularly to promote healthy growth, removing weeds, and deadheading flowers to encourage new blooms. You should also fertilize your plants periodically to ensure they have the nutrients they need to thrive. In conclusion, spring gardening in Texas is a great way to add value to your property and create a beautiful outdoor space whether to enjoy yourself, or if you are considering putting your home on the market this Summer. By selecting the right plants, planting them in the right location, watering regularly, adding hardscaping, you’ll create a stunning garden that will impress potential buyers and make your property stand out from the crowd.
