East Downtown is bordered by two Houston’s major freeways, namely Gulf Freeway and Eastex Freeway, and a part of freight railroad between Commerce St. and Cullen Blvd. Some of the areas located near EaDo are University Area, Texas Medical Center, Downtown Houston, and Midtown.East Downtown is one of the newest hotspots in the city in terms of transformation from an old residential district to an exciting area in the city. About 10 years ago, EaDo is merely a home to abandoned supermarkets as well as commercial establishments in the area. However, the renewed interest among real estate developers will make EaDo one of the most exciting places in Houston.
The area also undergoes major transformation in terms of transportation. Despite being already connected to other areas in the city with two freeways, EaDo will now be connected to some of the major areas in the city with METRORail, with the construction of two new stations in East Downtown.
EaDo transforms from a lifeless district by day to a bustling area by night, primarily because of the number of bars and restaurants in the area. East Downtown takes pride in having some of the finest music bars, night clubs, and restaurants in the city, with thousands of Houstonians flocking the area every night.
East Downtown residents are also close to some of the biggest sporting venues in the city. Just a few minutes from East Downtown, residents can find Astro’s Minute Maid Park and Rockets’ Toyota Convention Center. Meanwhile, situated at the heart of the city is the BBVA Stadium, a newly constructed sporting venue on Dowling Street that serves as the home court for the Major League Soccer Team Houston Dynamos.
