The attached   Garden Oaks Snapshot gives a quick overview of the neighborhood: Age, house styles, prices, ded restrictions, neighborhood feel, etc. I previously did Oak Forest...other to follow.

Garden Oaks is a unique neighborhood. When initially developed in 1937 it was to be the next River Oaks.

Wide curving streets, big homes set well back on huge treed lots. The first section built was indeed a River oaks like neighborhood. The war changed that though. Construction virtually stopped during WWII.

After the war, the homes built matched the needs of the returning vets...smaller, less expensive.

So, you now see a broad range of homes here. From big plantation style homes on the east side, to smaller cottages further west.

See my Page on Garden Oaks on my main website for location, maps and detailed description.

Garden Oaks has about 1400 homes. It has an active Civic Association which keeps an eye on deed restrictions.

I will give home prices in my next post. Download my Garden Oaks Snapshot though for a quick look.
