Are Mediterranean-Style Homes Losing Their Charm?

Recent surveys show that those Mediterranean-style homes that were the style du jour of the 1990s, might be losing thier charm.

Widely know for such architectural features as tile roofing, wrought-iron accents, tumbled stone and stucco walls, Mediterranean-style homes certainly have lots of appeal. While the list price for these home styles are still high, they have seen slow a price upturn, especially compared to modern styles with minimalist designs.

With a stratospheric median list price of $750,000 nationwide, Mediterranean homes are triple the median list price of all other styles. Unfortunately, those prices have remained the same since 2012, while the median list prices of other home styles have increaed 25%. Modern home styles have gone through the most substantial increase, rising 37% nationally. 

Some feel the lack of price growth for the Mediterranean style is because of pent up demand for more flexible home styles that have drawn more interest and fierce competition in the post-recovery market. One thing is true, good architecture always wins in any home style, and well-designed homes will stand the test of time.
