My First Real Estate Interaction With a Scary Dude!

My First Real Estate Interaction With a Scary DudeThis is a post for the AR Contest: Your First Time. Many years ago, I received a call from a man (dude) saying he was interested in one of my listings. He proceeded to constantly tell me how he was a retired NFL player, yada, yada, yada. I am guessing he assumed this would impress me. His entire braggadocios statements were my first clue that this guy was T-R-0-U-B-L-E! Not knowing him, of course I Googled him and yes he was a former NFL player. Big deal right? I still had my "strange" feeling about this guy so there was no way I was going to meet him anywhere alone. I had an associate of mine with me upon our first meeting. Of course he had on a shirt that said, "NFL Former Players Association" just in case I forgot this important fact. When he walked in, yes he was a big DUDE! The thing that really got me was his long, dirty fingernails. GROSS out! He appeared to be very "put off" that I had an associate with me. During the entire meeting, all he could talk about was his past NFL career. I mean come on man - move forward in life! Yes, great accomplishment but we are here today and need to discuss something else. Things got really strange when he insisted that I represent him as a buyer. My instinct was a big fat NO! Because I was the listing agent, I suggested my associate (a guy) represent him. Not only did this DUDE become extremely loud and belligerent, he began becoming verbally abusive. Now at this point, we know we are outta there! This DUDE was just downright out of his mind! We exited quickly and hoped we would not hear back from him again. The next day there was a HUGE gunshot hole (only in Texas right?) in my sign on this property! WOW! Coincidence? No way! A big lesson learned - ALWAYS listen to your gut! If you don't feel right about something then go with it! I know I avoided a potential crisis with that guy! Thankfully, nothing else quite that dramatic has happened where I felt unsafe. We all live in a dangerous world and real estate is no exception. Be vigilant, be smart and be safe! Oh, and a side note; this picture just may or may not be from my own target practice! Just sayin!       "Have you fully lived today?" Paula L.
