The Best Christmas Lights in Houston TX!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Houston, so it's time to get festive y'all! Looking for things to do in Houston for Christmas fun? Round up your friends and family, jump in the car, and head out to the best places to see Christmas lights in Houston! If you're like me you don't want to waste time driving around hoping to see a great Christmas lights display, so I've compiled a list for you of the best places to see this year -

Let's start with the best FREE Christmas lights displays and best neighborhoods in Houston to see Christmas lights -

See the Franck Family Christmas light show in Copperfield in NW Houston. The show hours are Sun-Thurs 5:30-10pm, Fri & Sat 5:30 - 11pm. The address is 15923 Viney Creek, Houston, TX 77095. The locals say "it's definitely worth seeing."

Don't miss Prestonwood Forest Christmas Lights in the Prestonwood Forest subdivision off 249 in NW Houston. The 39th annual 'Nite of Lites" event begins on December 10th and continues through December 31st. Be sure to view the Visitor's Map and visit the Prestonwood Forest Neighborhood website to vote for your favorite house!

Drive a bit further north up 249 and you can check out the Schultz Holiday Lights! This animated light display set to holiday music will surely make you merry and bright!

Shepherd Park and Candlelight Park (north of 610 and east of 290) are among the favorites of the locals too. Start on Martin Road or Thornton and be sure to check out Bethlehem Street.

Briargrove Subdivision, between Westheimer/San Felipe/Chimney Rock/Voss is gorgeous this time of year with its towering oak trees overflowing with lights. This is a definite must-see!

The Humble Annual Christmas Parade of Lights is scheduled for Tuesday, December 6th at 6:30pm on Historic Main Street in downtown Humble. This year's theme is "Silver Bells".

If you're up to it, head north to The Woodlands neighborhoods of Panther Creek and Alden Bridge. I hear the lights are show-stoppers! Head even further north to Conroe to see the McCrae's Light Show. You can even join them for hot chocolate and cookies Friday and Saturday on Christmas weekend from 6-8pm.

Some of the best Christmas lights in Houston can be seen within the inner loop- head to the Woodland Heights/Houston Heights Christmas Lights or check out the Christmas lights in River Oaks close to downtown Houston. In River Oaks, make sure to hit Inwood and Bellmeade in addition to River Oaks Boulevard.

Head towards the coast for the Dickenson Festival of Lights. Free entrance, parking and shuttle service from 6-8:30pm through December 30th.

Head west to Christmas Katy in Pinoak Village, or south to Pecan Grove in Richmond (make sure to catch a hayride while you're there).

Green Tee Subdivision in Pearland of 518 has several categories of competition, a hayride, and tons of homes with light displays.

The Christmas Ranch is huge, free, and only an hour north of downtown Houston in Cleveland. There are a whopping 292,621 lights this year and so far over 2,400 cars have driven through the ranch. Hours are 6-10pm Sun-Thurs and 6-11pm Friday and Saturday. The kiddos can visit with Santa every Saturday from 7-9pm and December 23rd-24th.

If you're up to spending some cash to see some great lights, here are the best places for holiday lights in the greater Houston area -

Festival of Lights, Moody Gardens - (Galveston, TX) Festival admission is $10.95 (kids 3 and under are free). Enjoy over one million lights within 100 sound-enhanced animated light displays and live entertainment nightly. Skate around the ice rink, slide down the Arctic Slide and sit for pictures with Santa himself. Hours are 6-10pm thru January 8th.

Holiday Lights Tours- (Downtown Houston)The $35 admission will get you a bus tour of Discovery Green, River Oaks, Woodland Heights, and the tree at City Hall. This is a kid-friendly tour and kids 4 and under can ride on an adult's lap for free.

Magical Winter Lights- (La Marque, TX) Admission is $20 for adults, $15 for children 4-12 and Seniors. In addition to the spectacular lights and lanterns, you can listen to live music, let loose at the carnival, and watch cultural performances.

Tour De Lites- (Pearland, TX)This family bicycle ride in Pearland on December 10th begins and 7 pm and wraps up at 8:30pm. Cyclists will start at Independence Park and go through the Green Tee Subdivision to view the Christmas lights. For those who cannot ride a bicycle, a fun hayride will be available. Check out the website for additional info and to register for the event.

Santa's Wonderland- (College Station, TX) It's a bit of a drive and a bit pricey (ranging from $19-$37) but I hear it's a good time for all. This hayride tour through millions of lights promises a grand time and a "quality Texas Christmas experience." You have the option to splurge for a horse and carriage ride too.

Sugarland Holiday Lights - (Sugarland, TX) For $14 ($3 discount for seniors, military, children under 12 and groups of 10 or more) you can walk Constellation Field and check out the 2.5 million lights and numerous themed displays. You can even get some shopping done, eat yummy food, and visit with Santa! Open November 25-January 8. Sun-Thurs 6-9pm and Fri-Sat 6-10pm.

Winterfest at Typhoon Texas- (Katy, TX) Admission $24.95 adults/$19.95 kids. Walk through miles of lights, visit Santa's workshop, ice skate and slide down the giant slide! Sun-Thurs 6-9:30pm, Fri-Sat 6pm-Midnight.The fun continues through December 31st.

Zoo Lights at the Houston Zoo- (Houston, TX) Admission $9.95-$19.95 (check for discounts on the website too). You don't want to miss this. During Zoo Lights each year, the Houston Zoo is transformed into a magical wonderland of holiday lights. Listen to carolers and music groups from the Houston area perform holiday favorites. See the Houston Zoo Lights every night at 6pm through January 15th (closed December 24-25).

**Some sad news for all the Houston Christmas lights aficionados. This year there are two beloved homes that are not participating in the annual Christmas lights show - Moss Lights in NW Houston and Johnson's Christmas Corner in Cypress. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll be back next year, folks!
