First Aid CPR AED w/Child Certification
It only takes a few hours to get certified. Along with being a certified member of CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) to handle local disasters, I also took the time over the weekend to get CPR & AED certified with the Child certification with the American Heart Association. If you are not aware, the AED is the automated external defibrillator (also known as an automated emergency defibrillator). Over the years, CPR techniques change. The equipment you use, and the ways you perform CPR. You need to be ready for anything that might happen.
Being a part of CERT, we gather once a year to perform a mock emergency known as "CERT Rodeo". During this event, we go through several different scenarios. From smoke filled houses and buildings, evacuations, patient triage and transport, just to name a few. Being a first responder during an emergency event is something you need to be trained for. There my be an occurance when you should rush in or even be in the area due to dangerous deadly gases.
Being CPR and AED certified, you get to save a life. Having the Child certification, you go that extra mile to help even more. Using the AED is pretty straight forward, but there are special proceedures you must follow. And young children need special attention so that you don't harm the child more. Special Good Samaritan laws have been put in place to make sure those who cannot ask for help, receive the much needed help during those critical moments.
So don't worry, you can do this. Help someone in their time of need. Find your local fire station if there isn't anyplace offering training in your area. The fire department will get you certified too. I only take a few hours to learn to save someone's life. It my be a stranger, a friend, a family member, or your own child. Learn how before you need it. Be prepared and you shall not fear.
