The Ritual Burger is worthy of becoming ritual.

With Memorial Day weekend right around the corner, you are sure to get invited to at least one cookout. That’s why Sunday, May 28 is National Burger Day. But your friends’ handiwork on the grill is never quite the same as a perfect restaurant patty, honed for years to bring in customers. It’s clear there’s no avoiding a ground meat fix this weekend, so in the spirit of celebration, here are some of our favorite places to grab a burger. Best of all, most of them are even running a special this weekend, meaning there’s no excuse not to partake.

Bubba’s Texas Burger Shack

The little blue shack that could, Bubba’s is a Houston institution located on the side of the road under the Westpark Tollway, known for making some of the best game burgers around. They had planned on running a special, but the Travel Channel is checking out their burgers bright and early on Memorial Day, so get in this Sunday to see what the hype is about before it’s impossible to score a seat. Our favorite? The signature buffalo burger with house-made spicy pickles.

Stanton’s City Bites

Often rated one of the top places for a burger in the city, we felt we could not do National Burger Day justice without including them. Even though they aren’t running any specials (yet), Stanton’s, established in 1961, has a rich history, and more than a dozen burger to choose from. The Cowboy Brunch, topped with an egg, bacon, two kinds of cheese and fried pickles on Texas toast, is basically a whole meal in itself. If you have something special you want to drink with your burgers, it’s BYOB with a small corkage fee of only $5.

The burger at Jake’s Sports Bar is a Touchdown by any measure.

Jake’s Sports Bar

Recently featured as one of our Diamonds in the Rough, Jake’s does not disappoint when it comes to their burgers. In honor of National Burger Day Jake’s is running a special on their Touchdown Burger (with their special brisket/angus blend) with fries and a drink of your choice: Fountain for $10 or any domestic beer/Fireball shot for only $12. Plus, thanks to them being open till 2 a.m., you can even technically get your burger on Memorial Day.

Ritual

Don’t let the fancy steaks fool you, Ritual makes one helluva burger. In fact, they’re so proud of this one, the call it the Ritual Burger. Soft brisket lies on top of a double-sourced patty made from 44 Farms and Black Hill Meats beef that’s drizzled with a bleu cheese fondue boozed up with craft Dogfish Head IPA . To commemorate National Burger Day, Ritual is giving away a free pint of beer with every burger from its special beer menu throughout the holiday weekend.

Little Bigs

Sometimes we all have the need for a perfectly sized slider instead of a full-sized burger. Luckily for us, the folks over at Little Bigs are happy to oblige us. In honor of National Burger Day, they are offering a selection of any trio combination of their signature sliders for only $5 from open to close.  https://www.houstoniamag.com/articles/2017/5/25/this-sunday-is-national-burger-day

The Burger Joint

What list is complete without an official “joint” on it? The Burger Joint, with one location in Montrose and another opening up this summer on Shepherd, makes a variety of burgers and burger bowls. Some serious shake action helps diners cool down in the heat. While Burger Joint is not running any specials this Sunday, there will be a special for National Cheeseburger Day this September with cheese on any burger of your choice, so start taste-testing now.
