Reshaping the Fifth Ward: the plan to develop East Houston

HOUSTON – Locally based Midway, the developer behind CityCentre, is transforming a 150-acre Fifth Ward site into a 2.5 billion mixed-use shopping destination.

The project, dubbed East River, will have over one million sf of construction, including apartments, medical centers, entertainment buildings, retail shops, restaurants, and offices.

Work starts on the first 26-acre portion within the next few months. It will include a five-story apartment complex named the Laura. Completion of phase one is set for 2023.

East River will be developed in four or five phases over 15 to 20 years.
