Italian Festival Takes Over!

This weekend, the University of St. Thomas plays host to the 33rd annual Festa Italiana.  Share the heritage, culture and the romance of Italy! Enjoy a feast of sight, sound and wonderful tastes. Filled with entertainment, including the popular grape stomp, pasta eating contest, I Madonnari chalk art contest and plenty of children activities, there's something for everyone. Experience Market Square!

Explore historic downtown by joining your friends and neighbors on Saturday, October 15 fr om 6 - 10 pm  for the 3rd Annual A Night At Market Square, a free event that gives visitors a taste of bites and beverages from the area's diverse assortment of eclectic bars and restaurants.There's something for everybody at Market Square!

Ease into the night with food and drinks specials available at more than a dozen historic district restaurants. Then, check back into Market Square Park for the Go 'n' Glo Art Car Parade from 7:30-8 and stick around for Austin's jazz swing band, the Jitterbug Vipers at 8:30 pm. Kitchen Incubator is serving up tasty nibbles from their chefs at the edible market while Georgia's Market hosts live music and tastings to celebrate its new location.
Street parking is free after 6 pm and $5 parking is available across the street at Market Square Garage.


Energy Day Downtown!    

 Energy Day is a free family friendly festival that will celebrate and highlight the importance of energy in our daily lives and Houston's role as the energy capitol. Sponsored by the City of Houston and Consumer Energy Alliance, the day is jam packed with more than 80 kid-friendly innovative exhibits, demonstrations and booths focused on some of the coolest energy-related scientific breakthroughs, games and interactive displays, Energy Day is sure to be a can't-miss event for the entire family.
The day-long festival will take place from 11 am - 5 pm on Saturday, October 15th at Hermann Square on Smith between Walker and McKinney.



Strong Singing with the Symphony  

 Tony Award-winning, Broadway powerhouse and Glee star Idina Menzel joins the Houston Symphony at Jones Hall with hits from her starring roles in Wicked and RENT and songs from her album, "I Stand."  The singer performs her show for three consecutive nights starting Friday, October 14. Tickets start at $29 and can be purchased online or call (713) 224-7575.


Barkitecture is Back!

Join Houston Pavilions (1201 Fannin) and Pup Squad for Barkitecture Houston 2011 and enjoy a weekend of dog-day good times. See the "Bow-Haus" creations from Houston's best architects, designers and artists on display. Dog houses will be auctioned off to benefit Pup Squad, an animal rescue group whose goal is to rescue orphaned puppies and kittens.
Friday, October 14 kicks off with Yappy Hour featuring delicious cocktails and drinks from 5 - 9 pm. Come back on Saturday, October 15 for the live music, fabulous shopping and asilent auction of the designer dog houses from noon - 6 pm. Pets are welcome to bring their humans!
