Village West Yard of the Month

October 13th, 2021

Village West Yard of the Month

October is the last Yard of the Month this year.  The Village West October Yard of the Month winner is 11502 Burgoyne Drive. This is one of the corner lots that has plenty of yard to landscape and the owner has taken full advantage of that by landscaping every bit of it! Everyone can find a favorite spot in this yard!

11502 Burgoyne Drive

Approaching from the street, there are pots at the curb that just keep getting better by the month. They’re filled with Dracena marginata (typically a tropical houseplant) with its red-margined leaves (thriller). Also has the gray Artemesia (filler) and trailing red Mandevilla (spiller). Gray, red and green aren’t typical color combinations, but look how well they complement each other!

The front of the house is framed in mature, manicured shrubs. This includes Red tip Photenia, Yaupon holly, variegated Pittosporum, Asian jasmine and Nandina. As you approach the entry you see one of our favorite plants this year, Curcuma ginger. It holds its bright pink blooms for months and is a real eye-catcher! This area also has Foxtail fern and Gardenias. Cobalt blue pots adorn the front door for seasonal annuals. Trees round out the front. Pines, Oak and white Crepe myrtles near the house.

Mature Wax leaf Ligustrum continue around the side of the house. As Ligustrum age, they become bare at the bottom. This owner solved that issue by placing colorful Coleus beneath the Ligustrum. The star of the side yard is the little lemon tree, surrounded by Liriope that bloom deep purple spikes.

Newest Addition

The newest addition to this yard is the driveway bed. It’s dominated by chartreuse/yellow and pink annuals and perennials framed by Jasmine climbing up the fence. This bed shows how repeating color intensifies impact.

What a great end to the Yard of the Month year! Please stroll by to see this landscape, get some plant, design and color ideas, and congratulate the owner.
